The Nationwide Building Society New Swindon Half Marathon will not take place until 2021
The COVID-safe version of the annual event has been cancelled due to ongoing community pandemic concerns in Swindon
Due to the ongoing concern of higher incidence of COVID-19 in Swindon and the towns’ status on the Public Health England watchlist, organisers of the Nationwide Building Society New Swindon Half Marathon have announced the cancellation of the event that was due to take place on Sunday 20 September 2020.
All runners who had already entered have been contacted by email. If you have not received your email please get in touch at hello@newswindonhalf.co.uk
Authorities in Swindon have praised the outstanding planning developed by organisers to offer an adapted event, but cited the current spike in COVID-19 cases in Swindon that remain cause for concern as the sole reason that the event should not go ahead this year.
We simply can’t be sure that the current COVID-19 situation in Swindon will have improved sufficiently in the next four weeks, and it’s not fair on those entered to proceed with uncertainty and be forced into a later cancellation. Even though our plans demonstrate how an adapted version of the event could be offered with no impact on community transmission, it’s not responsible for us to bring any number of people into the affected postcodes and have them disperse to their respective communities.
Whilst its hugely disappointing for runners, local businesses and the charities who so desperately need the support that the event generates, public health has to come first. We’ll be back next year and hope you’ll be with us.
What happens to my race entry?
We’ll be back on Sunday 19 September 2021 to offer the brilliant event that Swindon deserves.
It would help us so much if you keep your place and allow us to automatically defer your entry to next year’s event. By keeping your place, you’ll save up to £5 by beating next year’s price rise, your place on the start line will be guaranteed and you won’t have to remember to enter again.
If you’re happy to defer to next year’s event, you don’t need to do anything. We’ll move you over automatically. If you’ve purchased any merchandise, that will also be transferred with your entry.
If you’d rather, we are able to transfer your entry to any one of more than 150 events in 2020 or 2021 from The Race Organiser group, including the iconic Run Silverstone or the neighbouring Frome Half Marathon.
Check out the full event lists in The Race Organiser group, including F3 Events, AAT Events and Purple Patch Running.
To transfer to any other event email us here but please ensure you do so from the address with which you registered.
If you’re unable to keep your place or transfer to any other event, you can request a refund by emailing us here before the end of Sunday 20 September 2020. Again, we request you only do so from the address with which you registered for the event.
If you need to, you can contact us additionally by phone on 020 7684 7185 or drop us a message on Facebook chat – we’ll be here to answer questions throughout Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August between 9am – 5pm.
You can also email us at anytime, hello@newswindonhalf.co.uk and normally receive a reply within 24 hours.
Thank you for your support this year. We’ll see you back at the Swindon start line in 2021.
