The following email went out to all Nationwide Swindon Half 2019 Competitors today :
Nationwide Swindon Half 2019.
Good evening all. I hope everyone’s dried out from yesterday’s race ?
Firstly, thank you very much for coming racing with us yesterday. The race is only ever as good as its competitors, and the spirits were super high yesterday, despite many crossing the finish line looking like they’d been for a quick swim.
I wanted to drop you all a quick email with some info on yesterday’s race, so in this email I’ll cover the following :
1) How fast you went and how good you looked doing it2) Charity Fundraising prize draw3) The next chapter for the Swindon Half4) Review us and be in to win a free entry next year1) How fast you went and how good you looked doing it
I appreciate this is the only bit of this email many of you really care about, so I’ll get it up first.
You can find the official results at : http://dbmaxresults.co.uk/Results.aspx?CId=16421&RId=282
You can find the official photos at : https://www.marathon-photos.com2) Charity Fundraising prize draw
I know that generally around 50% of you used your entries to raise money for Charity, and this is something we applaud massively.
In order for us to be able to shout from the rooftops just how amazing our runners have been, it’s important for us to be able to collect in everyone’s totals, or at least a good estimate of how much you’ve expected to raise so we can report it into the Council and the Newspapers so the general public can see just exactly what was happening on the roads of the town yesterday.
We appreciate that this is something we’re asking from you, so in order to balance out our request/reward ratio, we’ll take 3 completed responses at random and give you each a £50 voucher for Run Swindon in Old Town.
I reckon you can complete this survey in about 14 seconds (I’ve timed myself a few times trying it) and all we need to know is which charity or charities you’ve fund-raised for with the Swindon Half this year, how much you’ve raised and then a contact name and email or phone number so we can get you your prize if you’re drawn.
The survey is at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SWFVGD6 and will close in 1 week’s time on Sept 30th, when we’ll also be making the draw for the winners.
3) The next chapter for the Swindon Half
As some of you will already know, it’s now time for myself and Leigh to hand the Nationwide Swindon Half over to another organiser for them to continue with the race.
I’ll admit I was a little emotional on Sunday morning when the race started and myself and Leigh could see just how great the race we’d created has grown into, and the spirits and enthusiasm in the start chute was very special this year, even considering the forecasted drenching we all later got.
I’d like to think that we’ve planted the seed for the Nationwide Swindon Half Marathon in the last 3 years, and I’m very confident that the new organisers can take that seed and grow it into something even bigger and better, and something really fitting for a town the size of Swindon with such an amazing running community that we have.
Craig, Richard and the team at Theraceorganiser.com are a great bunch, and have vast experience in organising races across the country, and I’m certain are going to do the Nationwide Swindon Half proud over the coming years.
From a personal point of view, it’s going to be nice to be able to have some time to do some running again, and I’m very much looking forward to being on the start line myself this year rather than being in a control centre pulling my hair out, or taking down start line fencing and picking up litter.
We’ve had some great times over the last 3 years of the Half, and we’ve met some truly amazing and inspirational people, but it’s now time for me to find my running mojo again and get training for next Sept.
I’ll still be on this email for the next couple of weeks, but after that, it’ll be handed over entirely along with our website and social media pages to the new guys, who I’m sure will be along to introduce themselves properly soon.
I suspect I’ll still see many of you at Swindon Parkrun too.
4) Review us and be in to win a free entry next year
Everybody loves a review of a race, and the best one I tend to use when looking at new races to do is Racecheck.
We’d love that you all leave the Nationwide Swindon Half a review there please, as it’s a great tool to bring new people to our town. You can find the Swindon half review page at:
Just so those that didn’t raise money for charity, so can’t win with our survey in point 2, don’t feel left out, we’ll pick 3 reviews at random and arrange free entry for next year’s Swindon Half Marathon for them – The new organisers don’t actually know this yet, so I suspect I’ll be funding those entries myself, but fund them we will 🙂
Anyway, that’s it from me, so we sincerely hope you all enjoyed yesterday’s race, and I’ll look forward to being on the start line with you all next year
Graeme Hardie, Leigh Bint and the Nationwide Swindon Half Team
Please don’t forget that this year’s race was made possible by our amazing sponsors too, so please consider them next time you need to open a bank account, buy some timber, join a gym, build your own house, sell your house, buy a house, get yourself physio, fabricate some steel, get your ill pet seen or insure your home 🙂
